Chart of David's Mighty Men

This chart brings together the lists and descriptions of David's mighty men from 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11. The chart includes an explanation of the ranking and grouping of the mighty men. It also gives explanations of textual problems in the lists of names, and suggests ways to harmonize the list in 1 Chronicles 11 with that in 2 Samuel 23. Read more about David's mighty men in this blog post.

New Testament Timeline

This is a chronological chart that I created to harmonize major New Testament events. It is intended as a supplement to my New Testament interpretive guides. Download here. The PDF should be viewed at 400 percent.

Bible reading guides

Reading through the Bible is a great devotional exercise, and it is an ideal thing to do while reading an interpretive guide to the Bible. I have posted two different Bible reading plans here. The Bible Reading Record (designed as a bifold pamphlet) allows users to keep track of their Bible reading, but to go at their own pace and in their own order. The Bible Reading Schedule (designed as a trifold pamphlet) presents what I believe is the best plan to read through the Bible in a year. The interactive PDF version allows users to check the box next to daily readings and save the file in Adobe Acrobat Pro. When printing either version of the Bible reading schedule on an automatic duplex printer, select the option to flip on short edge, then trim the edges of the paper and fold to create a trifold pamphlet.

Visualization of Daniel 11:2–12:3

It can be difficult for the reader of Daniel 11 to follow what is happening in the text. This chart visually depicts the actions described in the text. It is intended as a supplement to my Interpretive Guide to the Major Prophets. Read more in this blog post.

Chronological chart of the Genesis patriarchs

This chart is a revision of a chart printed in Adam Clarke's early 19th century (ca. 1825) Bible commentary (between p. 88 and p. 89 of vol. 1 in my copy, but evidently missing in this copy from Google Books). It is helpful for showing which of the Genesis patriarchs were contemporary with other patriarchs. It is also helpful for seeing which patriarchs lived the longest, although it is not to scale. The date of 4174 BC for the creation of the world is calculated from an exodus date of 1446, with a 430-year sojourn in Egypt (Exod 12:40-41), resulting in the date of 1876 for Israel's entrance into Egypt. The other dates are calculated backward from there as presented in the chart.

Notes and charts for Semitics studies

This is a series of aids intended for use by Semitic scholars and students. These include an overview of the Semitic verbal system, a chart of Semitic phonological equivalences, a list of Arabic grammatical terms, and a chart of minor Hebrew verbal stems. Corrections and additions are welcome: send them to me through the "Contact" link at the bottom of this page.
